U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Attorney Jimmy McBirney Joins Scott+Scott

SAN DIEGO — Jimmy S. McBirney, a former Senior Trial Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, has joined Scott+Scott’s San Diego office as a Partner, where he will reinforce the Firm’s deep bench of trial lawyers and growing Antitrust & Competition Practice Group.

During his 10-year engagement with DOJ, Mr. McBirney tried more than a dozen cases to verdict, successfully defended numerous final judgments on appeal, and was awarded the Department of Justice’s Special Commendation for Outstanding Service for his trial work on a series of cases worth billions of dollars in combined damages.  He also pursued the first predatory mortgage “reverse redlining” case in DOJ history, and was part of the team that successfully pursued federal antitrust claims against Google in the Eastern District of Virginia for its anticompetitive monopolization of the advertising technology market.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join this outstanding team of talented and innovative professionals dedicated to holding bad corporate actors accountable to the people and businesses that they hurt,” McBirney said.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jimmy to our team. He brings a wealth of experience encompassing government service as well as cutting-edge approaches to competition law. With this latest addition, we continue the strategic expansion of our Competition and Antitrust Practice Group, and significantly enhance our growing, nationwide footprint in this field,” Managing Partner David R. Scott said.

In 2025, Scott+Scott’s Antitrust and Competition Practice Group was recognized for its outstanding achievements across industry publications, including Lawdragon, Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, and the National Law Journal.
